"When Ehlana was kidnapped to force me into doing my enemies bidding, I was prepared to do what I had to. If they had killed her, I would have thrown myself against them, for my life would be worth nothing."
Sparhawk realises that perhaps he's said too much there, and there is a look of steel in his eyes and he braces himself for whatever Martel may say.
