Martel spares a moment to silently damn whoever's behind the accursed luck to have Ewar, of all possible people, interrupt them - interrupt them now, no less. He knows who the boy reminds him of and why, and honestly he's more concerned for him than for his former fellow. Khalad is enough of a Kurik-reminder, he's sure, but Ewar doesn't need to bear the brunt of this animosity simply by his proximity and his loyalties. (The fact he worries about the impact of his reputation on the people around him sometimes surprises Martel as much as anyone else.)

"Sparhawk, my swordmaster, Ewar. Ewar, Prince Sparhawk of Elenia. Fetch me the bit on tracking portals, if you would, and leave it with the rest of them. I'll sort it out myself later."
