[log] fairytales don't happen by magic

[02:29] * Martel is visibly ... different; less weighted, perhaps, not smiling but closer to it than his usual slightly put out neutrality. He's damn near humming when he gets to the wine rack.
[02:35] * Maria comes sauntering in. She is WAY MORE PREGNANT than she used to be, but not huge yet, just...you can tell through her clothes now, whereas before the billowy tops made it questionable. "Hi!"
[02:35] Martel: "Hello, little witch," Martel says--that's a brilliant smile she gets, unprompted. "You look well."
[02:36] * Maria looks him over, eyebrows raised, and then she grins back. "So do you! What's up, huh?" Oh, couch, you are Maria's BEST FRIEND.
[02:38] * Martel fills his glass and does a little hand-head wordless query after whether or not she'd like something. "I had an unexpected visitor."
[02:45] * Maria waves the query off, cheerfully. "Really? Who!"
[02:45] * Martel joins her, then, glass in hand -- which he hands off to her with a 'hold this one moment' gesture.
[02:47] * Martel hasn't actually...tried anything yet, so this should be interesting. Careful pronunciation, low voiced, and the gestures flow as well as they ever did; he hands her a white rose, and smiles infuriatingly. "An old friend."
[02:49] * Maria looks delighted. "Oh! You have--so that's what's different--"
[02:50] * Martel is pretty pleased with it himself, Maria. "I made a few--" sincere, "--promises and was given an opportunity."
[02:51] Maria: "I knew something would come along.  So you're completely a hundred precent thrilled, right? Right?"
[02:52] Martel: "Yes," he says, half-laughing. "Moreover I am grateful."
[02:59] Maria: "Yeah." She smiles, less ~*hyper*~ and more thoughtful now.
[03:05] * Martel has had enough time to not...be a leaping spaz about it, but there's a joyful sort of energy about him, just resisted. He's happy, but he's being quiet about it, for reasons likely known only to him. "Aphrael," he says, almost inanely, before adding clarification, "the Styric child goddess."
[03:13] Maria: "Pretty name."
[03:15] Martel: "Of course. She is a goddess." Having presumably retaken his glass, he sips from it. "You'd approve; I've got instruction from on high to care about people."
[03:19] Maria: "Hey, you should see some of the Sumer goddesses.  Ereshkigal..." LET'S NOT GET INTO THAT.  Dear Maria: you couldn't just have worshipped Athena or something like a normal Pagan, right? Of course not.  "Oho.  So I'm helping you if I nag you about being nice?" :3?
[03:19] Martel: "Caring and being nice are different things," he points out, immediately. "I could be extremely nice without giving a damn." ...yes thank you that was extremely helpful, Martel.
[03:20] Maria: "So I should nag you about both, is what you're saying."
[03:20] * Martel pauses.
[03:20] Martel: "...I don't think it's what I intended to be saying."
[03:21] Maria: "Well, that's how I interpreted it." And as we know, Maria adheres to reality at all times.
[03:22] * Martel suspects Maria and reality are only passing acquaintances. Long out of touch penpals, maybe. "Of course it is." :| Look how put upon he is--no, nothing can ruin his mood right now.
[03:28] * Maria grins at him again. "You are totally gleeful. It's adorable. I'd ruffle your hair but I think you're too tall."
[03:30] * Martel grimaces at her, then laughs, ducking his head slightly. "I didn't expect this so--soon." Or so...no, he'd not call it easily, but he did expect to have to do more convincing.
