[16:25] Grif: "And yeah, without admitting to anything in particular, transitioning to legit work does take some getting used to."( Read more... )
[16:25] * Martel coughs. ...what. Nothing.
[16:47] * April keeps her hands clasped and stares at them, then at Martel - it's an interested, unthreatening kind of stare. "That's really cool. I mean - and you do this with everyone?"( if nobody is, that would explain some things. )
[16:48] * Jack nods courteously, "Pleased to meet you."
[16:48] Martel: "When I feel a pressing urge to be respectful, or charming," he says, coming up off his knees.
[00:10] Martel: "I thought you'd say that." As he told Hasi.
[00:11] Jekyll: "Am I so predictable?" ....yes. Grow an ego.
[00:11] Bruce: "Ah, it's all right, I don't... remember the number..." this is a lie, but he doesn't really like people having his in-Gotham numbers. (If you're surprised he's paranoid you haven't been paying attention.)
[00:11] Martel: "No, I'm just an excellent judge of character." He's also watching Bruce, mildly curious.
[00:12] Jekyll blinks at that a little, but he's had the same number since like 1998, so. "I suppose I can't fault you for that."
[00:12] Jekyll: To ...Martel. ALthough it could also apply to Bruce.
[00:15] Bruce goes to look inthe side room he was in earlier.
[00:16] Martel: "I had excellent training." He pauses. "You are sort of predictable, though."
( i like to call strangers in the middle of the night to whisper 'we know what you did. don't worry, you aren't alone.' )
[18:21] * Martel is technically 'on holiday' - the educational sort - so it's a little odd to need a break from that. And yet: here he is, taking a break. His hair's neatly braided back and he...doesn't look /uncomfortable/, per se, just as though he doesn't quite belong in a suit (jacket abandoned). The wine is fine, though.
[18:39] * Jekyll emerges from a door to the ...somewhere and looks around with the keenly interested eye of a person who has just found something they considered too good to possibly be true. "So it does work." He looks exactly like he was meant for the clothes he's wearing; clean if faded jeans, a grey button-down with the sleeves rolled up. "What a fantastic, if not completely insane proposition."
( (The Nexus, apparently. Really, is he wrong? No.) )
[21:51] * Brody is... back, now that he's had time to change--now wearing his jammies, Nightmare Before Christmas flannel bottoms and a Misfits hoodie. And make-up, because GOD FORBID someone see him without it. He is pale(r than normal) and tired(er than normal), sitting on a couch, staring at the bar.
[21:56] * Martel has spent less time around Stigmata lately (and there are reasons, one assumes); when he does arrive now, actually tidied up fit to his station, he's a little on edge. ...which he'll tuck away, upon spotting his company. "Hello, there."
[21:58] * Brody stirs, abruptly--he had zoned out for a moment there. He manages a sleepy smile. Sleepy, but he can't sleep, THANKS BODY. "Hey."
[21:59] Martel: "You ought to be sleeping, I see." Martel: responsible adult. ...responsible adult who is getting a drink, it's been one of those.
[22:01] Brody: "Don't start." He at least has a blanket, which he wraps around himself, with his bare toes sticking out under it. "I will get up and mother you to death." ... something in there sounds like it is missing an s.
[22:02] Martel: "If I'm remembering my mother rightly," Martel drawls, digging out a wine bottle, "then I promise you I'm getting married, we don't have time for children yet, and I have no idea what the difference between cream and off-white is."
[22:02] * Martel is lying about the last one, FYI.
[22:03] Brody: "But did you wash your teeth and brush behind your ears?" What.
[22:03] Martel: "You're thinking of nursemaids." ...welcome to the nobility.
[22:04] * Brody actually... tilts his head really far to the side, like a puzzled owl. "...really? People do that?"
[22:04] Martel: "You want to hear about my childhood?" Martel cocks his eyebrow, half-amused.
[22:06] Brody: "Probably not if it involved nursemaiding."
( [22:06] Martel: 'It wasn't very interesting.' )
[23:49] * Candice arrives in a sweater and jeans today, wouldn't Sir Martel be proud. She stops in her tracks, wide-eyed. "Um, hi." A new person!
( [23:50] * Martel is already looking up when she comes in properly, with a slightly resigned expression she might almost recognize. )
Martel spends more time drinking alone than is probably healthy; in his defence he's usually working and moderating his alcohol intake. It's mid-morning or so when he gets to Stigmata as arranged - he doesn't really know precisely when Eden intends to be there, and when Candice is making her usual morning stop he's busy quietly and carefully explaining to Langler that he will be very displeased if certain people (like Langler) don't stop hitting on Eirene.
Whenever Eden does arrive, Martel will be in a relatively decent mood, paper spread out over one of the tables and a half-full wine glass holding down the corner of a map he's bent over.
[14:37] * Maria is +1 babby today. She has Nouria in a sling, but with that little carrier basket, too. ...Maria uses the nexus as a cheat so she doesn't have to go outside in the cold, by the way.
[14:58] * Martel should probably not spend so much time drinking alone. He offers a vague wave when Maria comes in, from over his notes.
[14:58] Maria: "Hi!" She meanders over, babby in arms. "Nouria says hi, too."
[14:59] Martel: "Hello, then."
[15:01] * Maria sits down next to him. "How're you, honey?"
[15:02] Martel: "Busy, per usual. And you?"
[15:05] Maria: "I am fantastic, thank you very much." She pats Nouria affectionately. "Guess who turned three months old yesterday!"
[15:06] Martel: "I can't /possibly/ imagine," he says, dryly, because he is asking for it at all times.
( [15:07] * Maria casually punches him in the arm and resumes conversation as if that never happened. )
[06:43] * Martel is...in the nexus again, but at least this time he's from the right goddamn time period. ...depending on your perspective. He's working-from-bar again.
[06:48] * Teobhan comes in and just ...stares. He might recognize her ethnicity, he might recognize the style of dress, but he certainly won't recognize the woman herself, as she was born years after he even left the Order.
[06:48] Teobhan: "What--" /Where/, more like.
( [06:49] * Martel gives her a politely blank look )
[00:29] * Candice comes meandering in /early/ in the morning, with a sweatshirt and jeans on. She is not sure how long the sweatshirt will be remaining on, though, because she has a tank top underneath and it's also way too big for her.
[00:37] * Martel is already there, as he occasionally is, although this time he's actually been there for a while and has dozed off.
[00:39] * Candice nudges him with her knee on her way passing by. "We have a bed, you know."
[00:40] * Martel starts, and ... reacts about how you'd expect him to react started awake, but he does rein himself in pretty well and pretty fast. /Almost/ fast enough to miss it. "...I know."
( It was a little disappointing to wake up with you not in it. )
[13:21] * Martel isn't working in the bar as much as he has done; not when he spends most of his time at home at work, too, and it's been delicately suggested that perhaps he might like to slow down a little. Of course, his relaxation involves study, too...so at least providing the wine doesn't go to his head, he's working on his English.
[14:00] * Wanda looks rather startled to be here, but that isn't an unusual expression for someone who's abruptly landed in the Nexus--and it isn't the first time, though she's new to Stigmata. She guesses where she is, at least, and steps away from the place where her door used to be.
( [14:00] * Martel glances up, briefly. )
(dated: october 30th)
The past few weeks have been, for Martel...an interesting time. Today, though, today isn't very interesting. (Yet.) Today is mostly quiet; he's been occupying himself with finalizing his staff (as it'll stand for a time - it's more than likely he'll need to expand later, but for now he thinks he has everyone he needs sorted out), and now he's escaped the lot of them for his favourite pastime.
That would be: avoiding Ewar's near-supernatural ability to find him anywhere in the castle by taking his books and his drink in Stigmata, flexing the fingers of his right hand and really looking forward to when it's properly good as new. The pull of still-healing flesh is making his already typical-scholar's-handwriting more strained.
[14:15] * Martel is probably heard before he's seen, coming in--/backing/ in--from the now-usual door that tends to lead from the bar to Arum. "--you're going to sit still or I'm going to carry you back, let me stress--"
[14:16] * Candice is the teeny tiny black woman with long dark hair being toted around. She's moving a bit gingerly and has a cast on her wrist, that's probably related. "I will be very, very still. I promise." :|
[14:17] * Grif looks over, his face still hidden with his helmet on but with a curious tilt to his head.
[14:18] * Martel has an expression of long-suffering consternation, ushering Candice over to the nearest sofa. Oh, hey, that's Grif. He remembers that guy. (The only way this could be odder looking would be if Brody were somehow involved.) "Good evening." :[
[18:33] * Maria is here in a bar, perhaps looking for Martel.
[18:34] * Martel is here, now; god only knows what he's /been/ doing. "Hello, there."
[18:36] Maria: "Hi! Can I have a sleepover?" ........let's just get that out of the way. "What are you up to?" Meanwhile, she ambles around the bar, poking at stuff. Including the answering machine, because no one else uses the thing.
[18:37] Martel: "Define 'sleepover' before I answer that."
[18:38] Maria: "Brody wants a vacation, and if he comes over I'll have someone to entertain me." She scrolls through the text messages, and then pauses.
[18:40] * Martel tries to recall if he's met Brody. "Very well. What are you looking at?"
[18:40] Maria: "Um. Be calm, first. So this chick Candice is your girl, right?"
[18:40] * Martel has the look on his face of a man who's pretty sure he knows what's coming. "That's one way of putting it."
[18:41] Maria: "It looks like she's in the hospital with her friend Enfys...I guess someone tried slitting her throat or something? I don't know, the message is off-world, some of it's garbled."
[18:42] Martel: "Does it say /where/?"
[18:46] Maria: "Um, it has pinpoint coordinates attached! Bolivar medical."
[18:50] * Martel looks /extremely/ calm, which may or may not actually bode well. "All right. Your friend can come and stay, and I'll see you as soon as possible, I have to go. Now."
